In high school, Mrs. Horton's mother encouraged her to become a teacher after noticing her natural connection with children. She followed that calling and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1999, beginning her teaching career in the public school system in Huntsville, Alabama. During her five years there, she also completed a Master of Science in Education.

In 2004, Mrs. Horton and her husband relocated to Berrien Springs, Michigan, so he could attend the Andrews University Seminary. Shortly after the move, she began her teaching ministry at Ruth Murdoch Elementary School. She is passionate about helping children learn, grow, and develop a closer relationship with Christ in a safe, nurturing, and joy-filled learning environment.

The early years of education shape more than just school readiness—they shape identity, confidence, and a lifelong approach to learning. At Ruth Murdoch Elementary School, we recognize that what happens in these formative years lays the groundwork for how a child thinks, relates, and thrives. Here, education is more than academics. It’s the cultivation of curiosity, the strengthening of resilience, and the daily experience of being seen and supported. In classrooms filled with purpose and encouragement, students begin to understand not just what they can achieve—but who they are in Christ.
