Growing in confidence and capability

Second Grade at RMES

A year of discovery, skill-building, and spiritual growth in a supportive, Christ-centered classroom.

Learning with purpose, leading with heart

Welcome to Second Grade at RMES

Building the bridge between early learning and lifelong growth.

Second grade is a year of growing independence, deeper curiosity, and big steps in learning. At RMES, students are encouraged to explore new ideas, solve problems with confidence, and reflect God’s love through kindness and responsibility.

Whether strengthening their reading fluency, diving into science, or leading prayer during class worship, second graders at RMES are supported every step of the way - academically, socially, and spiritually.

Laying foundations for lifelong learning

What Students Experience in Second Grade

Christ-Centered Academics. Daily devotionals, memory verses, and faith-based lessons help students apply biblical values in and out of the classroom.
Math Confidence. Addition, subtraction, place value, and early problem-solving skills are taught using manipulatives, visuals, and real-world examples.
Leadership Through Responsibility. Art, music, and movement are woven throughout the day to support different learning styles and encourage joyful expression
Reading Fluency & Comprehension. Second graders grow into strong, expressive readers through guided reading groups, phonics review, and interactive read-alouds.
Hands-On Learning. Through classroom routines and peer interaction, students grow in patience, empathy, and responsibility as part of a learning community.

Where Every Lesson Builds Confidence
and Character

The early years of education shape more than just school readiness—they shape identity, confidence, and a lifelong approach to learning. At Ruth Murdoch Elementary School, we recognize that what happens in these formative years lays the groundwork for how a child thinks, relates, and thrives. Here, education is more than academics. It’s the cultivation of curiosity, the strengthening of resilience, and the daily experience of being seen and supported. In classrooms filled with purpose and encouragement, students begin to understand not just what they can achieve—but who they are in Christ.
