Every child has a song to share
Inspiring hearts and minds through melody, movement, and ministry.
Developing Talents. Honoring God.
At Ruth Murdoch Elementary School, music is more than a subject - it’s a creative and spiritual expression woven into daily student life. Students are encouraged to explore their musical gifts and use them in ways that honor God.
From Kindergarten through 8th grade, students at RMES engage with music as both a creative outlet and a form of worship. Younger students build foundational skills in rhythm, melody, and movement during general music classes, while older students can choose from a range of ensembles - including Beginning Band, Concert Band, String Orchestra, Bell & Chimes Choirs, Classroom Choirs, and Performance Choir. Whether learning to read music, performing in chapel, or preparing for a festival, students are encouraged to grow in skill, discipline, and spiritual purpose.
Each opportunity fosters not only musical growth, but also confidence, collaboration, and joy in using their talents to serve others.

Meet The Teachers

The music program at RMES is led by a talented and passionate teaching team. Dr. Elsy Gallardo-Díaz directs the band and handbells, inspiring students to strive for excellence in performance and musicianship. Mr. Cerna brings energy and faith to general music instruction, guiding students in musical growth across all grade levels. Mrs. Shari Lyons leads music for grades K–2, fostering creativity and joy in young learners through engaging, foundational lessons.
Together, they provide a well-rounded and supportive music education that challenges, inspires, and nurtures students at every stage. In addition to core music classes, students can participate in a variety of ensembles and performance opportunities, enriching their experience through collaboration, creativity, and the joy of sharing music with others.

The early years of education shape more than just school readiness—they shape identity, confidence, and a lifelong approach to learning. At Ruth Murdoch Elementary School, we recognize that what happens in these formative years lays the groundwork for how a child thinks, relates, and thrives. Here, education is more than academics. It’s the cultivation of curiosity, the strengthening of resilience, and the daily experience of being seen and supported. In classrooms filled with purpose and encouragement, students begin to understand not just what they can achieve—but who they are in Christ.
